We are resuming our Glass Blowing Taster Classes in June. There will be up to 4 participants in each class, starting 9.30am to 1-1.30pm approximately. Each person will have their 'goes' in turn, you all talking to Will about glassblowing, his work, cider drinking etc etc.

Our classes give students an opportunity to try their hand at blowing a small clear glass vessel and dish, and experience the unique problems that working with molten glass pose. The session will include basic glassmaking techniques such as marvering and blowing. You can keep everything that you make, although you will not be able to take it home with you on the day because it has to anneal overnight. Vouchers are available as gifts for recipients to book themselves. Please note classes do tend to get booked well in advance at busy times of the year.

See the bottom of this page for Terms and Conditions and restrictions regarding health, age and ability.

Glass blowing is potentially dangerous. You will be given a safety talk before the session begins and you will be expected to listen and act on the instructions.

Will has been teaching glass blowing for many years. You may have seen him on Inside The factory, Kirstie's Homemade Home and Kirstie's Homemade Christmas teaching Kirstie Allsopp, or in the national newspapers.

You can keep everything that you make, although you will not be able to take it home with you on the day because it has to anneal overnight. You can arrange to collect the following week [please allow 4 working days] or we will courier the pieces and charge £10 per address.

Dates at bottom.

We try to keep sessions flexible. If you can organize your own group of four people for any session we can often teach on a different night or a particular day.

What's included in the price?

All materials are included.

Covid-19

Stringent cleaning of equipment between pupils, colour coded equipment and social distancing policies are in place and will be sent to attendees prior to classes. We do ask that you do not attend if you have symptoms or a temperature.

Terms & Conditions - important!
To guarantee a place we take advance payment. You can buy a voucher and book at a later date, pay over the phone with a credit card, pop in and see us or send a cheque.
Once a date is booked payment is non refundable. If you need to change the date, for whatever reason, and give us minimum four weeks notice there will be no charge. If you give us less than four weeks we will try to fill you place[s] but this is not guaranteed and if not filled you will loose your payment/voucher.

We do not run classes unless all four places are filled/paid for.

We reserve the right to cancel classes due to unforeseen circumstances and will try and give as much notice as possible if this arises. In the event of cancellation we will offer an alternative date or full refund. Shakspeare Glass cannot accept liability for consequential loss, such as travel or accommodation, in these circumstances.
Participants must be 18 years of age and above.

Vouchers are valid for one year from date of issue, though due to Covid-19 vouchers that are running out from November 2020 to June 2021 will be extended by 6 months.

WARNING

At the risk of stating the obvious, glass blowing is physically demanding.
If you struggle to do any physical exercise, can't run up the stairs or bend, crouch and stand up easily, then this is probably not for you.

It can be dangerous for me, you and your fellow participants if you can not control the blowing irons easily and for the whole duration of your 'go's'.

If you have a disability or medical condition which affects you in any way, please discuss this with us before you book.

If you have a hearing impediment be advised that the workshop has a high level of background noise which can make it very difficult to hear any instructions, and so making the session potentially dangerous for yourself, the other participants and me! Lip reading is not possible for participants because they MUST watch the materials and their hands.

Unfortunately, if you wear a hearing aid we would advise you that glass blowing is not a good idea.

We do reserve the right, on the evening or day, to not allow you to take part in the session if we feel, in view of health and safety, that you or others are not going to be safe. We have had to turn a couple of people away in the past as they had not made us aware of their situation in advance. You will be given a short talk about safety before you start the lesson and you will be expected to follow these instructions at all times.
