Every time I go in the workshop (well nearly every time ) Will seems to be making baubles. I think he actually quite likes them. It always amazes me that Will devotes as much attention to making the best bauble he can to one of his personal one off pieces. And there in lies the nub, they are really good, each bauble is a piece in its own right. And of course, because they are so good , we sell lots of them and that means that Will has to make lots of them. It’s a double edged sword. The more he makes, the better he gets.
So please buy a vase instead or a bowl or a tumbler - give the old boy a break. And for us who work in the same building, it will at least give us a different moan to listen to.
It's a pleasure to catch Will on one of his introspective moments and hear him talking about the colours in Rowberrow Warren (this week) or the amazing fungi on one of his walks or the western sunshine through the copses on Dallimore Lane.
Many of you know that Will’s inspiration comes from nature. It always amazes me how passionate he is about detail, he walks around Somerset ( he is in the last throes of the Mendip Way) as we speak and I know that very few people can walk as slowly (fortunately he has an amazing friend who does) they average one mile an hour because, he says, there is so much to look at. I know how many creative sparks don’t make it. Will always says It is more difficult rejecting stuff than working out what to make. Just on one walk last week the silver birches and shadows were so beautiful, and then the next field in the sun with a holly tree in the hedgeline.
