The Improbable Stack of Books

Commissioned by Exeter Library to commemorate the opening of the new Exeter Central Library. The original idea was based on the  marvelous images from the Sorcerer's Apprentice. The thought of a fantastic stack of books wobbling from floor to ceiling as you walked into the library was too hard a concept to ignore.

All the books have a direct reference to Exeter Library and each book has a story attached, from the most borrowed book to the oldest book to the only surviving book from the blitz.

The wood for the book covers was reconstructed from the shuttering in the old library and the spines of each book were created from the old handrail.

All the quotes were supplied by the librarians.
