Collection: Icy Roots
I am really excited about these pieces. They are an evolution of the Knarly and Roots ranges that have been gradually evolving over the last couple of years. Originally the inspiration was the old twisted trees on the Quantocks, and gradually this focussed in on the roots, especially the roots exposed as the old stone walls fell away, I love the almost unbelievable way these random organic structures support huge trees that must weigh tons. And I found that the more I looked, the more the space between the roots that were left when the stones or soil had eroded was amazing.
And so to these pieces, the above plus a bit of ice in the hedgerows and a spark is lit.
When I made these, I was not quite sure, after years of trying to make symmetrical glass, it is strange to deliberately use processes that force you to go against your default settings. And, in fact, I have to concentrate on not putting the glass back "on centre" But I am pleased with the finished work. It feels to me like a bit of closure on the idea................for now!
