Seagrass Paperweight 17223

The Seagrass range reflects my love of the colours within one of my favourite places. Shallow water -where the colours jump and sparkle. Snorkelling after a storm, in a shallow inlet is one of life's great pleasures! There is always something to see and watch and reflect on.

Initially designed in response to a brief for an exhibition at Gallery Tresco in the Scilly Isles, this range has developed and grown.

We make the pieces with the colours applied hot, using canes we have pulled and different size frits in many colours. I make the Seagrass paperweights with a trapped bubble which effectively gives a reflection from the colours back to the surface of the weights, and although the colours can pull the pieces off- centre, I always make the paperweights symmetrical - they feel better that way! When they come out of the annealer and are cool they are hand painted with a resist and then etched to give the soft matt and shiny surface qualities.

Height 75mm, diameter 80mm.
